Academy offers a rigorous set of academic
courses organized according to new curriculum
frameworks, grade span expectations, and instructional
standards for the traditional academic disciplines
of language arts, mathematics, social studies,
the sciences, and world languages. Students
pursue their studies in these disciplines
through a block scheduling format featuring
70, 90, and 105 minute instructional periods
that allow students to approach learning through
multiple strategies which embrace the varied
learning styles of the student population.
All academic courses strive to boost literacy
skills through attention to reading, writing,
speaking, and listening. Courses often integrate
the arts or incorporate a project-based learning
orientation. These strategies are at the heart
of the school’s effort to integrate
learning across disciplines, cultivate creative
expression in all its forms, provide opportunities
for students to work in multi-age teams to
plan and implement community-connected learning
projects, and enliven teaching and learning
by empowering students through different educational
strategies. |
